Cynthia Rowley Cashmere Cutout Sweater in Black - Snagged off Gilt.com for $129 (Retail: $330)

I will readily admit that I have become quite particular about the fabrication of pieces I buy online.  I look for cashmere, silk, alpaca, mohair, wool, leather, etc. mostly or a good blend that I know will be soft.  This probably stems from the fact that in high school I could barely afford to get myself something at Vanity or American Eagle in the mall and I was made fun of for not having the best clothing.  I take full advantage of getting the best materials now to assure that my item will last.  I also want the item to be able to work again and again in many different outfits.  This Cynthia Rowley cashmere sweater was a great find on Gilt.  Now, I can see why it might have been a hard sell.  It has cut-outs on the back and the front near your shoulders.  I swoon over cutouts, but some people probably don't like them very much.  You could layer a long sleeve underneath or wear it as is on a cool, yet sunny day.  Luckily, in Denver we have a lot of days where the sun is shining so even though it is winter it stays pretty warm.  In other words, the sweater was a perfect buy for a Denver-ite like me.

To play with how it looks I tucked the front into my leather shorts and left the back of it hanging out.  I think it looks better this way.  Otherwise, it hides my shape too much in both the front and the back.  These Alice + Olivia leather cady cuff shorts, which I also own in black, have only been seen on the Shopbop website.  They sold out pretty fast and I have yet to see them in moss anywhere else, but if you do see them and can afford to get them I would highly recommend it.  The color is perfect and they glow in photos.  I think the cuff on these leather shorts makes them easier to dress up than most so I wore some stiletto heels for footwear.  These Jimmy Choo Jedd studded ankle boots were a gift from my boyfriend last Christmas.  I haven't worn them in a while, but when I pulled them out again I wondered why I hadn't chosen them more.  They are very comfortable and the style is edgy, yet not too trendy.  If you are scared to step into ankle boot territory these might be a good first step without going all the way.

T by Alexander Wang Ponte Criss Cross Bra Top in Black - Worn before here with Alexander Wang metallic sweater and Rebecca Minkoff suede shorts

My boyfriend and I went out to see the Black Swan and later had a delicious sushi dinner.  I thought the movie was spectacular and not really scary, just very intense and deep, which I like.  We took these photos after the night was drawing to a close and we were strolling in Larimer Square.  We thought the lights looked beautiful and there were these cute metal buffalo lined up along the sidewalk.  I wore my Gryphon fair isle leggings, which have to be the thickest pants I own.  I always dreamed about fair isle knits and when I saw these I had to own them.  They are made out of wool with leather piping details and the pattern is not the most flattering, but they definitely keep you warm.  I think I could wear these skiing.

On top I layered my T by Alexander Wang crisscross bra underneath a Patrick Robinson for Target v-neck knit top.  I never take this bra top off.  It was my first T by Alexander Wang bra, but now I am convinced these are the only bras I want.  I don't even notice I am wearing it.  I then threw on this Shimera cashmere hoodie with bell sleeves and my Mike & Chris leather hoodie.  This outfit was all about comfort in the movie theater.  I didn't want to be distracted during the Black Swan.  For shoes, I wore my Camilla Skovgaard wedge ankle boots.  I needed the traction of the soles for walking.

Ali Ro Crepe Boyfriend Blazer in Coal - Snagged off HauteLook.com for $119 (Retail: $350)

Chanel Classic Pearl Necklace in Silver - Gift from Boyfriend

Quilted anything has been on my mind lately and I have been seeing quite a few quilted pieces around from various designers.  I managed to snag these Alexander Wang quilted denim shorts off of Gilt.  To my surprise they weren't selling that well.  I think it is because the quilting can add some extra padding around your body and some women don't like that.  I need to keep warm though and quilted pieces are the way to go, especially in the winter.  The weather has been so mild here so I am lucky I can still get away with shorts and tights.

My boyfriend got me these Camilla Skovgaard wedge ankle boots with the saw sole.  I have wanted these for over a year, but whenever I looked for them they were always sold out everywhere.  Somehow he found them!  The sole might look weird, but once you have these things on your feet you will never look back.  Shoes you can wear all day (without pain) that make you look taller are what every woman probably wants.  Camilla Skovgaard knows how to design shoes for women.  They aren't too narrow and they are super comfortable.

I am not too fond of blazers, but I do surprise myself when I put one on.  They clean me up really nice.  This Ali Ro blazer is silk and the white folded over cuffs are sewn in place, which helps a lot.  Usually when I try to roll up sleeves or pull up cuffs they always end up falling back into their original form, which can be a little distracting for a fashion blogger.  Anyway, this blazer is beautiful and one of the few pieces I have from Ali Ro.  I wore a KAIN Label pocket tee with a Chanel pearl necklace underneath.  I need to invest in more of these KAIN tops as they come in really handy when I need a tee for layering.  My boyfriend bought me this Chanel necklace at the boutique in Chicago over 2 years ago.  It is a classic and I have worn it many times, but this is the first time I have posted it on the blog.
