Overall Hottie

Overall Hottie

Denim overalls have been making a comeback now for a couple years.  I was looking for a tight 1970s style pair with a flared leg.  I finally found them and paired them with a plaid crop top for fall and chunky ankle boots.  Shop the entire look below.  You can subscribe to my YouTube channel to see all my videos.

(FRAME Denim Overalls, Torn by Ronny Kobo Crop Top, Alaia Boots, Falke Socks)

I have been wanting a pair of seventies style tight flare denim overalls for quite some time.  All summer I searched around on eBay, Etsy, and other places.  I didn't care if they were actually vintage or just vintage inspired ones.  I really wanted that perfect fit.  I ended up purchasing Stella McCartney's flared denim overalls back in May.  I had high hopes since they were made in Italy and almost $1,000.  Unfortunately, my flared denim overall dreams were crushed when the denim was thicker than I liked and the fit was not quite right.  Somehow the top part of the overalls was super tight, almost too tight to fit any kind of top underneath.  The bottom part added a lot of bulk since the denim was thicker and ended up adding pounds in the process.  I returned them and gave up on my flared denim overalls dream until I saw this pair from Frame Denim show up on Shopbop.

This pair has the perfect amount of stretch and the denim is not too thick and not too thin.  The top part fits me perfectly and the bottom part does as well.  I didn't think it was possible.  I have so many problems finding dresses that fit just as well on the bottom as they do on the top, which is why you see me wearing bodycon stretchy knit ones all the time.  A lot of pieces are made for women who are straight up and down and unfortunately that is not me.

We shot these photos the night before we left for Chicago.  I was packing and I really wanted to wear these denim overalls so you could see them in all their glory before it got too cold.  I went for a farmer look by pairing them with this Torn by Ronny Kobo plaid crop top.  This top is made of that stretchy knit material I love.  I think it is super cute.  Plaid and denim have been a match for as long as I can remember so I decided to play that up.  I also wore the shoes I packed for Chicago even though I could have went with a lower heel.

You can see me in a baggy denim overall look here and in short denim overalls here.  I will never get sick of denim overalls.  I have loved them since high school.  It is really all in how you style them.  My preference for updating them is wearing them with a crop top and if you check out all my different denim overall looks you can see that is just what I did with each pair.

(A.L.C. Skirt, Jonathan Simkhai Top, Saint Laurent Bag, Express Tights, Falke Socks, Alaia Boots, Chanel Lip Gloss)

On our third night in the big city of Chicago we had a huge dinner to attend at Morton's Steakhouse.  It isn't my favorite place to dine as I have been to Morton's many times and I am not a huge steak eater.  However, they did have great desserts and delicious salads.  The appetizers were pretty good too.  It was overall a fun dinner.  Earlier in the day we explored the city even though it was raining for most of the time.  I just wore my Converse sneakers.  I stopped at Chanel and I was asking about some powder and she ended up painting my entire face.  I took advantage and wore the face out to dinner as well.  I usually have very little makeup on in my blog posts.  I wear mascara, eyeshadow, listick or lipgloss, and some pressed powder to reduce shine for photos.  Do you like the full makeup look on me or do you prefer a more natural look?  I know she used two types of eyeliners, a few different eyeshadows, two types of mascara, lip gloss, lip liner, brow pencil, foundation, powder, and blush on me.  I always feel a little funny in a full face of makeup, but I actually like the colors used on me here much more than the last time I had my makeup done.  You can see a different Chanel makeup look here.  Tell me which makeup look your prefer.  I think makeup takes a little getting used to and I wish I could do something similar to this on my own.  I guess you have to practice.

I packed this knit Jonathan Simkhai top that I snagged a month or so ago for the trip.  I really love the crossover detailing as well as the stretchy fabric.  The shoulder cutouts add a little something extra.  It reminds me of a top a ballerina or dancer would wear and that can't be a bad thing.  Knits like this one travel really well so it was easy to throw in my suitcase.  I planned to wear it with this A.L.C. metallic knit skirt.  I snagged this skirt at 40% off here and it is one of my favorite silhouettes.  A.L.C. makes these types of skirts every season and I always stock up because they are so versatile.  They also work well with crop tops and cropped sweaters.

You can see I am wearing the same Saint Laurent bag as the second night as well as the same Alaia ankle boots.  You have to be ruthless when you pack and try to be creative with your looks when you unpack if you want to travel with only carry-on luggage.  I make my bag and shoes work with every look I pack.  It also really lets you get some wear out of your pieces.  I think if I had to stay another week in Chicago I could have mixed and matched even more pieces to create new looks with what I packed in my suitcase.  It is sorta fun to try to see how many new looks you can come up with using only limited pieces.  It really gets your creative juices flowing.
