It has been a lovely Winter Kate spring 2011 showcase here on Fashion Snag thanks to Karina of Tea Leaf Clothing. This Winter Kate crane jacket is yet another piece she sent me from the latest collection. I personally adore the floral print on this one, but there are many other jacket prints from Winter Kate to choose from and I will be showing you more soon. This particular floral print reminds me a bit of a painting and when I look at it quickly I think of an artist's brushstrokes. The pink, black, and white color combination is perfect for spring as well. This jacket has a hook and eye closure in the front and I show you how it looks in the video with it closed so be sure to check it out. I do like the cardigan worn open better so that is how I wore it here. It is silk chiffon, making it very airy and light for everyday wear.
Most people would style the cardigan with something simple underneath like a white or black tank top, but I wanted to do something different so I styled it with this Nanette Lepore ladies night corset, which has been hanging in my closet with the tags for at least a year. I bought it on sale at Bloomingdale's a long time ago and it has a zipper in the back and ruffle button detailing down the front. I believe this corset also came in black, but I think the white was the best option to show off all the detailing. Anyway, the reason it took me so long to wear it is because it flares out at the bottom so when I would try to wear it the corset would never look right. I imagine it would look great on someone with a few more curves. I didn't want to get it taken in because you never know what can happen at the tailor. I also tried tucking it into skirts so the flare on the bottom would not show, but then it made the skirts look really weird because the fabric flared out under the skirts as well. Well, after I put on these jeans I looked at the beloved corset again and inspiration struck. It seems so simple now, but the truth is that I rarely wear jeans so I never thought about it much. With the bell bottom jeans and cardigan it looks perfect and I think it would also look good with skinny jeans. The Winter Kate cardigan also helps to hide the flare of the corset. This corset is beautiful and I never gave up on it because I always thought it was gorgeous and now I am happy I have a way to wear it. It also has an elastic strap hidden underneath to hold it in place, but it still creeps down on me because I have a small chest. Nanette Lepore makes some beautiful pieces and I own a few more that I will have to start wearing and show you on the blog.
I knew I wanted to wear this particular pair of Siwy anita flare jeans with the cardigan. It seemed like the contrast in colors worked together really well. This is one of my favorite pairs of jeans and you have seen me wearing them before on Fashion Snag with a blazer and wedges. They are the perfect wash with the perfect name, spirited. It describes my bohemian spirit in a corny way. I wanted a pair of light wash bell bottom jeans for a long time because I love my J Brand dark wash lovestory jeans. When I saw these anita flares by Siwy I knew they would be a great alternative.
It seems that whenever I am wearing long bell bottoms or flares I choose to wear my taller Miu Miu platform ankle boots with them. These boots are really simple, but they go up a little higher than all my other Miu Miu ankle boots. They are actually cut a couple inches above the ankle and you can see this if you watch the video. I like to have a lot of black ankle boots of various heights available to me in my closet as they go with everything. Sometimes you like things simple and these have one zipper on the back and slip on and of course they are comfortable like most Miu Mius, but will make you a few inches taller so you can wear those long bell bottoms.
Watch the video to see the sleeves of the cardigan in action and how you can also wear it closed. I also show my Miu Miu boots in more detail.
