I was in a seventies mood so I went for a look that I thought embodied that era. I call this look "seventies schoolgirl." The outfit was inspired by these flared denim trousers from Veronica Beard. Veronica Beard is a fairly new designer brand on the scene. You might remember my fur collar denim jacket from last fall that I wore with a black suede mini dress. You can see it here. That was my first Veronica Beard piece and I wore it a lot. You can see how I styled it with a leather mini skirt as well here. I love all my Veronica Beard pieces and most, if not all, of them are made right here in the USA. These flared denim trousers have an amazing and curve hugging fit, perfect for girls like me that have a butt. Nothing is worse than denim that flattens the butt. These flared trousers are available at two different retailers and you can find them for under $300 here and here. I am 5'5 and you can click above to see the shoes I am wearing with these jeans to see if they would work for you and your height. The jeans run true to size.
I wanted to wear some sort of long sleeve form-fitting turtleneck top with these jeans. I recently snagged this ski-like long sleeve top from Rag & Bone. I love all the rib detailing on it and the fit is superb. It also has thumbholes, but you don't have to use them and I didn't utilize them for this look. My one weakness is definitely long sleeve form fitting soft tops. This one has a real athletic vibe to it and the mock neck went perfectly with the flared denim. You can find this top at a bunch of different retailers. I found that it does run large. Rag & Bone recently changed their sizing to include an XXS size. I like my tops to be form-fitting like I said, but not too tight that they look too small. I am wearing an XS in the top and I find that it still has some wrinkles and room to breathe so that is why I am saying it does run large. You can find the top here, here, and here. It also comes in black.
I wore my Saint Laurent western boots, which are now on sale at Saks. These boots had the pointy toe I was looking for and also had the right height to make the jeans look like the perfect length on me. I love how versatile these boots are. I wore them recently with skinny jeans as you might remember in this post. They really are the coolest boots and they get more comfortable with each wear, meaning they are easier to slip on and off. These boots run true to size if you are interested in purchasing them.
My Nina Ricci satchel seemed like the perfect handbag for this seventies schoolgirl look. It has somewhat of a scholastic and classy vibe to it just like the mock neck or turtleneck top. I last photographed this bag for Fashion Snag in the summer with a Tamara Mellon suede fringe skirt and top set. You can see that post here. You can really see how the bag goes with many different looks. The bag also has a long shoulder strap so you can carry it in different ways. This bag is definitely a great investment and I think any woman would be happy with it as a gift.
The finishing touch for this ensemble, which is a bit difficult to see in the photos is my mascara. I wore blue mascara from Chanel. I thought it went with the feel of the outfit and I love trying different colors of mascara on my light lashes. The mascara is available in the 'bleu' color here. Sometimes I wear it alone like I did here and other times I apply a coat over my usual black mascara. It is a fun and cheap (cheaper than buying handbags) way to play with your look. On my lips I am wearing one of my favorite lipsticks which you can find here. The color is great. As always I put all the items in the shopping carousel below this writing.
